The
Franklinton Financial Fitness program educates residents in personal financial
management.
Like
many center-city neighborhoods, Franklinton has experienced many economic and
social challenges. One problem is a wide distrust of banks and government in
this community many residents are hesitant about participating in programs
outside the neighborhood. Less than half of those who live here are high school
graduates and there is a large proportion who dont keep checking or savings
accounts.
This
free program is funded through a grant from the Ohio CDC Association and other
donations. Addtional counseling is provided by partner financial institutions
and other non-profits.
Completion
of a financial literacy program is a requirement for many other saving
assistance programs currently available through our partners. Graduates will
be eligible to participate in homeownership, micro-enterprise, Individual Development
Account (IDA) and other wealth-building programs.
